5 Tips For Surviving The Blizzard This Weekend
With the Blizzard of 2016 upon us, we thought we would share some tips/reminders on how to protect your floors from the water, snow and salt. However, we know you have a lot going on in addition to maintaining the integrity of your floors, so we’re passing on 4 additional tips to help you survive the predicted 2 feet of snow coming our way.
1. Winterize your floors
Standing water, salt and snow are all hazards to your flooring. The best defense is a good offense, so we recommend two floor mats at your entrance way – one on which to wipe your shoes and the other as a place to step once you remove your footwear. When either of these mats becomes wet, it’s important to exchange them for a dry one as soon as possible.
Left untreated, these flooring hazards can cause warping, dull the varnish and cause scratching and abrasion as well as additional damage.
We also recommend that you create a watertight place to store your wet footwear near the entranceway. In a pinch? Use the plastic bottom of a dish drying rack, a thick trash bag or an ice tub.
Don’t forget the pets! We know you love them, but pups are also capable of tracking salt and water across your floors. Train your pet to wait by the door until you have a chance to wipe his or her paws. Keep a stack of soft towels and some treats by the door.
Uh-oh, see dried salt on your floor? Sparingly mix a few ounces of white vinegar in a gallon of water and dampen a soft cloth with the mixture. Wipe over the area until the white salt streaks disappear. Follow by drying with a soft cloth.
Whew! Now that your floors are adequately protected, here are some other tips to help you enjoy the winter weather with your family.
