In the 1970s, self-made businessman and Next Day Floors owner Mark Helman opened a new chain of warehouse stores he called Bill’s Carpet Warehouse.

This photo is from a Bill’s Carpet Warehouse store in October 1977. Some of the stores were originally Bill’s Carpet Barn, hence the storefront look.

In this year, President Jimmy Carter was president, Oakland beat Minnesota, 32-14, in the Super Bowl, the T.V. miniseries, “Roots” drew and audience of 130 million and performer Elvis Presley died.
